For years, everyone has assumed that our energy resources would continue to grow as in the past. Now it is becoming clear that this is not true. The people who have been talking about "peak oil" are probably correct - at some point, in the not too distant future, our oil supply will reach its maximum production level, and then begin to decline. The world will change a great deal.

There are many other related issues. Natural gas, as least in North America, appears to be reaching its limits also. In a few years we can expect shortages. Fresh water is also becoming increasingly scarce.

It is difficult to find up-to-date material that summarizes these issues in an understandable way, without hysteria. The material on this site has been put together using an analytical approach. The focus is more on what the future will bring than on what has happened in the past. The intent is to provide an overview of some of the important issues, without focusing on details like the chemical structure of ethanol.

The material is suitable for a wide audience, including interested adults who wish to broaden their understanding, college students, and advanced high school students. The material can be used as curriculum in classes ranging from physical science to ecology to economics to creative writing. Some of the articles are written specifically for insurance audiences.

Most of the analyses (found on the RESOURCES page) are approximately 10 to 15 typewritten pages in length. Each includes:
